Explore the full history of glass making in the UK and see cutting-edge examples of the contemporary glass maker's art - all for free!
Sunderland has a long history of glass making and this modern glass and steel building is dedicated to the creation, exploration and presentation of glass. Just up the road is St Peter's, the first church in the country to use stained glass back in 674 AD. The centre houses galleries, artists' studios, production facilities, a craft and design shop and a cafe and restaurant.
Housed in an innovative glass-roofed building on the bank of the River Wear, the National Glass Centre is a fascinating experience for visitors of all ages. It also acts as a focus for artists, designers and makers to create exciting new products and art.
Families and adults can enjoy a full range of exhibitions exploring ideas inspired by glass, watch artists create unique artworks from molten glass, browse in the Glass Shop and relax in the award winning riverside Restaurant and Cafe. Individual and group tours are available.
Throwing Stones Retaurant
Relax and enjoy the magnificent views of the riverside in the stylish and modern surroundings of ThrowingStones Wine Bar & Restaurant.
You can enjoy all the National Glass Centre has to offer and then settle down to a full meal or just a cappacino.
